To begin, some photos that were taken late in June 1998:

For the last few months, I've been working on the boost in the floor of the bus. Seven inches of raise will eliminate the bulges of the wheel well pans, and provide a large area for insulation and plumbing.

Here, the framing is assembled for about half of the project. All of the wood for this job is recycled, reclaimed, or reused in some form, including the ¾" A/C plywood that constitutes the sub flooring sheathing. R-19 insulation stands ready for installation (it's new).

The custom-made I-beams are joined by maple connectors and fastened with square-drive deck screws. Each joint is shimmed from the floor as necessary, then 2½" square-drive screws are driven through the foot of the I-beam into the bus floor, which consists of a total of 1½" of plywood and soundboard.

Now, back to real-time, the current photos.

July 31st. The framing over the front wheel wells is completed, and the 1" rigid insulation over the metal pans is installed....

August 1st....Resulting in 21 feet of sub-flooring finished, 12 feet to go.

Spent most of the day of August 2nd on the table saw, ripping dumpster-salvaged 2x4's, dadoing slots and laminating up the remaining I-beam material needed to finish the rear of the bus floor.

August 3rd. Beginning to lay out material and make final measurements to make the rear wheel well pans go away (YES!)
